Smelly or Stinky Feet? How to treat?

Stinky feet is a common problem. The main reason is because sweat becomes trapped in your socks or shoes, and can create a bad odor. This phenomenon is also called smelly feet or bromodosis.
Bacteria and fungus can also cause smelly feet. Both tend to grow in moist and warm environments. The bad smell caused by fungus is also known as athlete’s foot.
Wearing the same shoes repeatedly every day without frequently changing them or certain diseases can also result in smelly feet.
Although anyone could get smelly feet, about 10 to 15 percent of people have smaller than average feet. Kyetococcus sedentarius, which is a type of bacteria, exists on their feet which creates sulfuric compounds, resulting in rotten eggs like smell. Other factors such as wearing tight shoes, standing on your feet for long periods of time, and being under lots of stress can also trigger smelly feet condition.
Some people are more prone to stinky feet, such as teens or women (due to hormonal changes in their bodies) or people with excessive sweating condition, also known as hyperhidrosis.
Can smelly feet condition be treated?
Yes, it is easy to treat as long as you follow the instructions. Try to soak your feet in Epsom salt dissolved in warm water to give them a deep cleaning. Let them soak for about 10 to 20 minutes every week. You should also try to keep your feet dry. When at home, get off your socks to let them air dry. You need to also keep your feet clean. Try to wash your feet every day. You can scrub them with warm water, as you shower. You also need to keep your toenails clean and trimmed, and file off the dead skin on your feet. Besides, you can spray a disinfectant on your shoes and let them air dry. This will kill any bacteria or fungi that is living in your shoes.
